Even though paper has high recycling rates, and is one of the most recycled products in the world, there is not enough recycled paper fiber to go around. Brian Kozlowski, Senior Manager of Sustainability Performance Optimization at Domtar, recently wrote an interesting article for GreenBiz explaining the reasons for this. In addition he discusses a tool currently being developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in collaboration with AF&PA which will help answer the question of which products should be made from recycled fiber and which should use sustainably grown wood fiber.
