Following an open letter from Two Sides campaign all environmental claims against the use of paper has been removed from the Paperless2013 campaign’s website and twitter page.
The letter, sent in January this year, was addressed to Google’s chairman, Eric Schmidt, urging him and Google to re-consider its participation in the Paperless2013 initiative, making a particular reference to removing or changing the negative environmental claims that it was making against using paper.
The letter received a lot of attention, especially on social media sites such as twitter where it had a large impact to the point where even the Paperless2013 timeline was dominated by tweets in favour of paper.
The result of such a high profile statement is that now there are now no longer any environmental claims on the Paperless2103 site or Twitter home page and all pictures of trees or forests have been removed. The main tag line of the campaign has also been changed, focusing now on ‘Take the paper out of paperwork’ rather than ‘Save money. Save time. Save trees.’
The Two sides campaign still believes that Paperless 2013 is misleading people. The organisation today said, ‘The term ‘Paperless’ is deceptive. Our own recent pilot survey of consumers reveals that more than 55% of people print some of their e-bills at home or at the office, and about 25% of people print more than 30% of their e-bills.’
