Jim will discuss market trends for paper preference supported by recent InfoTrends research on consumers’ media preferences for receiving bills, statements, and related documents. This research is based on surveys with more than 3,000 U.S. adult consumers (18 years and older).
0915–0945 Two Sides North America Progress Report (Phil Riebel – President, Two Sides North America)
Phil will give an overview of Two Sides North America activities over the past year, including available resources to promote the sustainability of print and paper, and the success Two Sides has had in challenging and removing anti-paper environmental claims from the marketing materials of several major corporations (i.e. go green – go paperless, save trees). Examples will be used to illustrate why most of these claims are misleading and do not meet best practices for environmental marketing.

William R. Koehn

VP, Printing & Publishing Paper Sales – Domtar
William (Bill) R. Koehn is responsible for the sale of all Domtar’s Printing & Publishing Papers through the merchant channel. Prior to the merger of Domtar and Weyerhaeuser Paper, Bill held numerous management positions with Weyerhaeuser. These included serving as vice president of printing and publishing papers (2000-2006), vice president sales (1998-2000), regional zone manager (1989-1998), market manager coated groundwood (1988-1989), and special projects manager for coated papers (1986-1988). Bill started his career in sales with Consolidated Papers (1980-1986) and is a 1980 graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he earned a B.A. degree in international relations. Throughout his career, he has held several industry positions including member Book Manufacturers Institute and Chairman of the Printing Distribution Council. He has served as co-chair on the American Forest & Paper Association’s printing and writing papers committee and National Paper Trade Association’s Board of Directors. He currently is a member of the AF&PA printing and writing committee and is the Chairman of Two Sides North America.
Jim Hamilton
Group Director, InfoTrends
Jim Hamilton is Group Director responsible for InfoTrends’ Production consulting services in the areas of production copying and digital printing, wide format, labels & packaging, production workflow & variable data tools, document outsourcing, and business development. Mr. Hamilton is responsible for conducting graphic arts market research, market forecasting, custom consulting projects, and creating editorial content for product and market analysis reports. Mr. Hamilton has been involved in the graphic arts and publishing industries since 1980, and has been a member of InfoTrends’ On Demand Printing & Publishing Consulting Service since 1995. Prior to joining InfoTrends, Mr. Hamilton worked at Linotype-Hell as an Applications Analyst and author of the company's Technical Information Series. He also worked as a freelance graphic designer in the textbook publishing industry. He has an M.S. Degree in Printing Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) and a B.A. Degree in German from Amherst College.
Phil Riebel
President, Two Sides North America
Phil has over 25 years of International experience acquired in senior management positions related to environmental sustainability in industry and consulting and he has participated in numerous environmental projects related to the forest products industry worldwide. Prior to leading a Two Sides start-up in North America in 2011, Phil was Vice-President, Environmental Affairs for UPM-Kymmene in Helsinki, Finland where he was overseeing the company’s environmental program and strategy at a global level, including sustainable forestry, environmental performance of operations, environmental marketing and services. Prior to that he led UPM’s environmental program in North America. He has published extensively on sustainability and environmental topics related to the forest products sector. Phil received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Phil and his family own 200 acres of sustainably managed forestland in the Northeast.
