CHICAGO (December 1, 2015) – University of Washington Pulp and Paper Foundation has joined Two Sides North America, the non-profit organization that promotes and encourages the responsible production, use, and sustainability of print and paper.
“We welcome the University of Washington Pulp and Paper Foundation to our network of over 10 U.S. and Canadian universities offering paper science and engineering programs, as well as graphic communications. Over the past four years, several students and professors have engaged with us to help spread our message throughout the academic sector. So many students are studying in these fields and it’s important that the public get the correct facts about print and paper,” says Two Sides North America President Phil Riebel.
"The Foundation is pleased to partner with Two Sides to increase awareness of the continuing value of paper and paper related products. Our member companies’ support of our students is testimony to the vitality of our industry and its relevance in today’s economy," says Michael Roberts, Executive Director, University of Washington Pulp and Paper Foundation.
About University of Washington Pulp and Paper Foundation
The Pulp and Paper Technology degree was established in the UW College of Forestry in 1965. The degree is now more appropriately named Bioresource Science & Engineering (BSE) and is housed in the School of Environmental and Forest Science. The development of the BSE degree came with increased industry activity to investigate the transformation of bioresources into many alternative products, e.g., fuel, chemicals, as well as more traditional pulp and paper end uses.
The Washington Pulp & Paper Foundation (WPPF), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was incorporated in 1968. The purpose of WPPF is to attract and support exceptional BSE students and provide the industry and its allied partners a pipeline of highly qualified engineering graduates who understand and are dedicated to the industry.
